In today’s market, job seekers’ weaknesses are probably highlighted more than ever. Likewise, you must develop a strategy to minimize any potential flaws. For example if you are a mature candidate, potential employers may believe you are not savvy with technology. To counter this you could create a blog and become active on social media sites. You could also work as a pro bono consultant for a non-profit or small business to acquire more experience for vital skills that are required for your desired position.
Instead of viewing a new job as the only win, create wins for completing all of your daily tasks. Also reward yourself once you generate a response from a potential employer as well as an interview. Also consider executing new job search techniques as small wins. For example, the 30/30 method that was described on one of our recent Tuesday night career shows; can generate responses and interviews from companies very quickly. This would be extremely helpful for individuals who have not received a response or interview from potential employers in some time.
Finally, view your job search as a job. Thus ensure you also spend time enjoying the finer things in life; especially activities that make you laugh and smile. Rest and relaxation are vital for keeping a positive mental attitude during a competitive search.
