Fellow job seekers tune in to tonight’s BlogTalkRadioShow (BTR) “How to Uncover Hidden Jobs” at 9:30PM-10:30PM EST. Encourage fellow job seekers to do the same.

Why:

With ~15M people looking for work and ~3M available jobs, competition is fierce. Several job seekers may convince someone “to give them a fish” by posting “X professional looking for his or her next opportunity.” However, this is probably unlikely. I tried this earlier in my search and received “help” from individuals involved with network marketing, franchising, full commission professions (that are always hiring), etcetera.

Instead fellow job seekers should “learn how to fish” by using the free tools at this site and becoming a regular listener of the weekly Career Factory talk shows. Fellow job seekers in addition to “asking for a fish” should target hiring managers and explain how they can solve the hiring managers’ problems by “selling money at a discount”. In other words, for every quarter in salary you are paid, you generate a dollar in return.

Just like me in the beginning of my search, fellow job seekers do not know how to fish for jobs. In the past, all we had to do was apply to job postings. However, the Great Recession has changed this. For example, our “8 Weeks Till Our Next Job Campaign” is in the second week. Most (if not all) of the participants have been in the job market for at least one month.

However, a majority of them are grateful to have an additional week (this week) to determine their ideal job, targeted companies, and hiring managers; to complete two versions of their resume, cover letters, reference lists, Internet audit, ZoomInfo and LinkedIn profiles, brag book or portfolio, and etcetera. Finally, they should be able to join me next week as we fish for our dream jobs by networking with our targeted hiring managers.

Finally, my goal is to help as many individuals land their next opportunity by uniting job seekers with career experts since the wisdom of the crowd is richer than the wisdom of a few. So job seekers actively participate and encourage fellow job seekers to do the same.
