The debate continues whether you should routinely provide career guide job references in your resume; by inserting “references available on request” at the bottom of this document. When I am in doubt, I personally stay on the conventional side of any issue that is undecided. A resume protocol could include a resume reference list of three to five people in a resume career guide addendum.
Keeping this in mind, we will go through some important matters worth considering while including references in a resume addendum. You have to be certain to mention the reference contacts that are in the reference list when you are applying for a job. They may be contacted, so, it is general courtesy and good etiquette to alert them of this possibility. You should also include information about the job you are applying for. This would enable them to know which qualifications they should focus on; if they are contacted for reference checks.

When you are sending your resume to a number of potential employers then it is probably not recommended to include your reference addendum. You only want to include this information once you successfully completed interviews and believe your candidacy for employment could advance to the background screening phase. If this is the case, you need to ensure the following items are in your reference addendum.
In case you have already provided a resume that is without references and you have been called for an interview; be sure to bring a copy of your resume with the reference addendum. On occasions the hiring manager or human resource representative may call your references after a good interview. Likewise, your future planning and diligence will assist you in getting one step closer to the job you are looking for.
