Are you actively or passively looking for a new job? If so, you may know the ideal career you are seeking. Since competition for jobs is fierce currently, you should stay grounded. Finding your ideal position could take some time. Likewise, you may have to stay longer in your career guide current position or take a bridge job first.
With this in mind, it’s more than possible for you to land your desired job. If you have not done so, below are a few characteristics you may want to seek in your ideal career.
Although job security is not what it used to be, according to your career guide you should seek a long-term position. A long-term position is one that is extremely important to the company in both the short- and long-term. It is also a job that allows you to make a positive financial impact and create sustainable value. As long as you meet or exceed expectations and the company continues to operate as a going concern, your job should be “secure”.

Ideally, you will want to work for an outstanding boss who views you as an ally instead of a threat. Your manager must have a vested interest in your success and provide you with guidance. He or she should also give you work streams that allow you to shine and receive praise from all levels of management. Always strive to return the favor by making your boss look great; creating a win-win situation for you and your manager, company, and customers. When you and your boss do not agree; agreeing to disagree, finding common ground, and moving forward should be possible.
Seek a position that allows you to maximize your strengths and grow both professionally and personally. Once you have consistently demonstrated all of the competencies for the next position in your career trajectory; you should have the opportunity to advance. Likewise, make sure your targeted companies promote from within; providing you with a greater chance for advancement.
If possible, seek a position that is close to your home. Jobs that are not within 30-40 miles of your home will reduce the time you can spend outside of work. Precious time you can instead use to relax, sleep, spend with family, and so on. Also (if you drive), a long commute could cost you more in terms of fuel and vehicle maintenance.
In conclusion, it’s vital that you seek an ideal job that can help you thrive within a competitive and changing global job market. A career that allows you to create value and solve problems, work with great people, and advance is a must.
