Direction

For most, if not all, job seekers the goal is to find a job. However, several do not know exactly how they are going to do this. To stay motivated, you need to create a list of all the manageable activities that can lead to your job search success. Next, you need to prioritize these tasks and generate tangible metrics for them. For example, you can keep track of the number of interviews that resulted from X amount of submitted applications or hiring manager discussions. As a result, you can measure your success along the way and make any necessary adjustments.

Purpose

Next you should determine a tangible purpose for your job search goal. Do you want to land a job that can help your career over the long haul? Do you strictly want money? Or do you want money to help those who depend on you? By combining your goal with a purpose you will have an additional incentive to keep moving forward when times get really rough.

Focus

Finding your next opportunity in this job market is a full-time occupation. It is also a challenging task. To keep your work and pressure (to deliver) at manageable levels; you should consider turning down additional assignments or tasks. You do not want to get overwhelmed with too much work that you reach a point of wanting to give up. Likewise, it’s important to keep your focus on your priorities to remain sane and working towards your job search goal.

Break

On occasions due to your hard work, you will feel exhausted and your productivity will suffer. These will be perfect moments to get away from your job search. Likewise take a break and use this time to rejuvenate and rest. Spend some time alone, seek feedback from outsiders, take a walk, or participate in any other relaxing activities. Finally, restart your work once you are re-energized.

Reward

Create incentives for successfully completing your daily, weekly, and/or monthly tasks. These perks could be large like taking a weekend trip or small such as watching a movie or eating dessert. Most importantly, these rewards will keep you on track by completing the necessary tasks that are prerequisites for achieving your ultimate aspiration.
